l RBS: Registered the biggest failure in British corporate history last year when it filed a pound(s)24.1 billion loss for 2008.
l Vodafone: Suffered a net loss of pound(s)21.8bn in May 2006. In 2002, the firm reported another huge loss, this time of pound(s)13.5bn.
l Lloyds Banking Group (including HBOS): Announced a pretax loss of pound(s)8.5bn in 2009.
l Cable & Wireless: Posted a then-record pound(s)6.5bn annual loss in 2003, leading to 1500 job losses.
l British Aerospace: 13,000 jobs were lost as it plunged to a pre- tax loss of pound(s)1.2bn in 1992 – the first time pound(s)1bn mark had been broken by a British firm.
